Our Bollywood actresses are under the public eye constantly. And we mean constantly! Have you seen all those really unflattering pictures of all these stars without makeup? Have you also noticed that they still manage to look pretty nice and well, healthy? This here is a post about the top fitness regimes followed by our favourite actresses. We all need a little bit of inspiration, don’t we? This post will do just that with some of the most grueling and exhausting work outs you’ve heard of. Yes, Hema Malini is on this list and there can be no doubts as to why! This woman was not only one of the finest actors in her generation; she was also one of the fittest. Her figure was to die for then and can put most women to shame even today! Physical fitness is very important to Hema Malini and she makes sure she follows her fitness regime strictly. She cycles every morning and follows that up with yoga and pranayam. She also realizes that diet plays an important role and thus fasts twice a week at her age! She is a strict vegetarian and apart from that, her diet mostly consists of home-made south Indian food. She also says that discipline and will power are extremely important to keep one healthy.
Anyone who’s seen Malaika Arora Khan and her gorgeous legs would not dispute her presence on this list. And she’s a mother of two. We know she looks far from it, but well. This forty year old mom with the enviable figure has a rather surprising fitness routine. Contrary to what it looks like, she doesn’t append all her time in the gym. She actually just goes to the gym three times a week! Now we cannot use that as an excuse for skipping gym every other day like this lass can. Her workout usually consists of 20 to 30 minutes of cardio followed by various forms of exercise. These can include kick boxing, aerobics, jogging, and swimming, anything she feels like doing on that day. She also relies on various dance forms to form an integral part of her fitness routine so as to keep her body agile. If it works for her, we can only hope it works for us too!
First off, let us tell you that Nargis Fakhri is 34 years old. Oh yes. And she is also one of the brand ambassadors of Reebok. Her fitness routine works wonders and here it is. She believes in moving all the time. Moving burns calories and Fakhri does not let go of any opportunity to burn calories. She always takes the stairs, so much so that she once climbed to the 52nd story of a Manhattan hotel to visit a friend. Now that is the kind of dedication she puts into everything she does. She starts her morning with Zumba, a form of dancercise that’s gaining popularity in India now. As for her diet, she prefers to cook her own food and uses fresh veggies and a lot of grains and pulses. Also, since her tummy doesn’t agree with heavy food, she refrains from a lot of bread and milk products. Basically, Nargis’ mantra is to be dedicated and take the stairs, no matter what!
Katrina Kaif is probably one of the few celebrities with a figure that normal Indian girls can aspire to achieve. She isn’t stick thin and generally looks healthy and not anorexic! Her fitness routine is simple yet intensive as she tends to put on weight easily, like all of us! What is surprising about her fitness routine is that she isn’t a gym rat. She starts her routine with a little bit of jogging to warm up. This is usually followed by a yoga session. Katrin is a huge fan of yoga as it gives her mental peace and keeps her lean. Also, for her role in Dhoom 3, where she plays an acrobat, she was advised by her rumoured beau Salman Khan to swim and cycle as they would help lean her out further. As for her diet, Katrina Kaif does not eat fried food at all! While we cannot imagine a life without the occasional samosa or a steaming plate of this is the price you have to pay for a gorgeous body!
Karisma Kapoor is a mother of two and has recently launched a book on her post pregnancy weight loss. She lost 24 kilos in 9 months, immediately after her son was born. In the book, she talks about how effective vane the traditional weight loss methods are.   She was a complete non-believer in yoga and its powers until she tried it for herself. She was a true believer in the powers of hard-core gymming up until she tried yoga after her kids were born. She now does yoga four to five times a week, to fast peppy music. She also recommends getting a personal yoga trainer but we all know that’s hard for us. So power yoga is the way to go!
How could this list be complete without Shilpa Shetty ?! Here at number 5, we have Shilpa Shetty and her awesome fitness routine. Shilpa Shetty has released a fitness DVD which mainly featured yoga.Shilpa's knocked off almost 20 kilos (she calls it the 'Viaan fat') within 10 months of giving birth to her son. "I have 1 kilo to go," she says, clearly proud of her achievement. Shilpa encountered yoga for the first time when she was undergoing physiotherapy for a neck injury. She also follows a strict no dieting policy! She thinks that diets are unnecessary and well, who can blame her when she’s had a terrible experience with them! A few years back there was the fad of Blood Group diets where the foods were designed according to a person’s blood group. While she put on 3 kilos in the failed attempt, her husband Raj Kundra put on 7! She believes in eating healthy and keeping it simple.
At number 4 we have Sonam Kapoor, the ultimate flab to fab story. Sonam Kapoor was an overweight schoolgirl up until she decided to get into movies. Sonam Kapoor lost a massive 35 kilos before her Bollywood debut with Ranbir Kapoor. While she was very athletic while younger, it took her a lot of effort to lose the extra weight. She was helped by a whole team of trainers and her regime included power yoga, weight training, pilates, Kathak, swimming, basic cardio and a lot more! Apart from all the work out, she also lay off anything fattening completely and has one of the most strict diets in the industry! You clearly have to work your booty off to look like a million bucks.
Bipasha Basu was the first Bollywood actress to release a fitness DVD in India. She loves her food, like any true Bengali and manages her diet in a way that she gets all her nutrients from her diet. She does not believe in taking supplements. Whenever she has to have meat, she tries to make sure that she has it with a lot of greens, that way she takes in more vegetables than meat. Her fitness mantra is to be fit and healthy enough to live to be a 100! She is one of the few Bollywood actresses who works out without a break at all. She works out 6 days a week and does almost a hour of cardio before she moves on to whatever body part she is focusing on that day. She also believes in switching things up as monotonous work outs can make the body lethargic. She lays a lot of importance on discipline as is very very clear from her schedule!
Sonakshi Sinha is one of the actresses who went from fat to fit for Bollywood. What makes her special enough to be number 2 on our list is the fact that she had Salman Khan to back her up! It was because of Salman Khan pushing her that she lost 30 kilos in all of 2 years! She was asked to lose all the weight if she wanted a career in Bollywood. Looks like the hard work paid off! While she was struggling with her weight problems, it was her mother who actually pushed her to do something about it. It was after she stopped pushing her at all that Sonakshi decided to take action. While her fitness routine was grueling and so demanding that she had trouble getting out of bed, she was determined and that was what paid off. She was on a hardcore cardio and weight training regime and her diet was extremely controlled. She learnt the hard that crash diets do not work, when she started putting on more weight! After 2 years of working extremely hard, she is now at a point where she can enjoy the benefit of working hard then.
At number 1, who else could we have but Bebo! Her epic size zero transformation may have been pushing the envelope a bit too far but her bounce back to a healthy figure was nothing short of amazing. Before Tashan, Bebo was a slightly pudgy, clearly a Kapoor actress. For her scene in a bikini in the movie, she went all out and lost all of her pudginess. So much so that at one point, her head looked bigger than her body! She is rumoured to have been on a diet of orange juice and orange juice alone as she lost all of this weight in a dramatically short amount of time. Rujuta Diwakar, her trainer then gained popularity because of her drastic weight loss. But after a short period of time, Kareena Kapoor seemed to have realized how harshly the cut down was affecting her body and you could see her regaining a healthy look. It was at this time that she took to yoga. She is known to do 100 repitions of Surya Namaskar in a day to keep fit and has also converted her husband Saif Ali Khan onto yoga. She believes in exercising in the open air, and can be seen practicing yoga on her front lawns. Now that she’s healthy again, we can see that she has one of the most enviable figures in the Indian film industry!
